DREAM CONCERTS ❘ ART SHOW BY ANDRÉ SARAIVA

André Saraiva - Dream Concerts - Artist's Studio - MOCAtv

In Paris, New York, London, and Los Angeles, show posters for dream concerts with all-star lineups have been tempting passersby and drivers to attend Madison Square Garden or the Bowery Ballroom, L'Élysée Montmartre or the Wiltern. Double-take on these worn posters and you're not even sure if they're coming up or something missed and legendary from long ago, but posted in public space, the anticipation is real. Upon closer inspection, we see that these epic concert announcements are actually paintings of lineups that only exist in the imagination of French graffiti artist André Saraiva. In this video, Saraiva takes MOCAtv to his studio at the Chateau Marmont, where he screenprints his playbills before pasting them on city streets. André Saraiva: Dream Concerts is in the Broad Lobby of MOCA Grand Avenue through October 7, 2013.

AARON YOUNG ❘ FOCUS ON THE FOUR DOTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PAINTING FOR THIRTY SECONDS, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND TILT YOUR HEAD BACK (FRANTIC FRUIT)

AARON YOUNG
'Focus On The Four Dots In The Middle Of The Painting For Thirty Seconds, Close Your Eyes And Tilt Your Head Back'
2007
Silkscreen on canvas , 147.3 cm diameter

Young's FOCUS ON THE FOUR DOTS FOR 30 SECONDS, CLOSE YOUR EYES, THEN TILT YOUR HEAD BACK (Frantic Fruit), is an abstracted silk-screen print. Drawing from the graphic language of pop and advertising, as well as the cultural value of the print as an art object, Young uses the power of this media to disseminate subliminal messages. The image itself is a pleasing composition - reminiscent of both Warhol's Rorschach paintings and primitive art - however, if the instruction in the title are followed, a portrait will appear of Jesus, Che Guevara, or Charles Manson depending on the viewer's perception.
The Title of the prints from this series are taken from bubble gum flavours, lacing the high of instant gratification with problematics of religious or political ideologies.                                                      via saatchigallery.com

BLACK SABBATH NEW ALBUM ❘ 13 ❘ POSTER CAMPAIGN

Morten Igermann, CEO of McCann Copenhagen, the agency responsable for the poster campaign, told Creative Review magazine that ""For some time, we had been fascinated by the almost endless layers of posters that cover our city walls," .
"What if we dug our way through them. Imagine what we could find?"

"The installations were created in different sizes and shapes and we put them up at different poster sights in crowded areas of Copenhagen," Ingermann says.

"We simulated the effect by glueing together layers of old posters and then carving out the holes by hand. It took forever but in the end we think all the hard labour paid off."
